chmod

chmod 777 I'm trying to change the permissions of temp_dir to 777. Why are these commands not accomplishing that? I'm using Linux by the way.. You can type chmod 777, leave a space after it, and then drag the file or folder from Finder into Terminal. Terminal will fill in the correct path for you.
